The Eagan Police Department is proud of our well-earned reputation for professionalism and responsiveness to the needs of the community.  We believe the key to our success is in hiring high quality officers and support staff while providing them with excellent training, equipment and supervision.  Our department consists of 77 full-time sworn officers and 18 full/part-time non-sworn personnel.

All new police officers participate in a four-week in house academy.  After the academy, new officers will be paired with three field training officers until they transition to solo patrol.  The Eagan Police field training program rewards hard work and high standards and works to develop recruits into reliable  police officers that have the desire and ability to serve our community with compassion and courage. 

  • Starting Salary - $68,993.60/year
  • Top patrol officer pay - $99,652.80 (achieved after 36 months)
  • Longevity pay for 5 years (4%), 10 years (2.5%) and 15 years of service (2.5%)
  • A 9% increase over top patrol for a 15 year veteran
  • Holiday check on December 1st - 125 hours of pay
  • Paid vacations (120 hours for the first year)
  • Paid sick leave (accrues at 8 hours per month) that has unlimited accrual
  • 10 hour workdays
  • Voluntary on-duty fitness program with incentives
  • Wellness Incentive Program
  • Tuition reimbursement for continuing formal education

The following WILL result in the rejection of police applicants:

  • Felony and gross misdemeanor convictions (including pardons and expungements)
  • Controlled substance conviction
  • Criminal sexual conviction
  • Conviction of assaulting, fleeing or eluding a police officer
  • Evidence
